For Immediate Release (Dec. 11, 2007)
Contact Person: Kathleen To or S. B. Woo
80-20 Initiative announces today that it has received a signed reply from Sen. Hillary Clinton to its questionnaire. She answered all 6 questions with one single word: YES. This represents an iron-clad commitment that if she becomes our President, she will give Asian Americans equal opportunity in workplaces and to be appointed Federal judges. 80-20 is inspired by Sen. Clinton's firm stand for America's core value -- equal opportunity.
A key law to assure equal opportunity in workplaces is Executive Order 11246. Senator Clinton has promised to enforce that law for Asian Americans. In addition, she promised to nominate qualified Asian Americans to Federal District Courts and Circuit Court, whenever vacancies occur.
Other presidential candidates who have answered with 6 yeses are Democratic Senators Joseph Biden, Chris Dodd and Mike Gravel.
President of 80-20, Kathleen To, said, "Asian Americans are rightfully proud today knowing that when we practice politics the American way we get results. A new page is turned in the history of Asian American politics."
S. B. Woo, Founding President of 80-20 & former Lt. Governor of Delaware said, "This announcement should convince our community to discard Asian style politics. Don't raise money for politicians like ignorant slobs. Tens of millions of dollars donated to politicians in past decades haven't done our community any good, while causing bad publicity. Practice politics the American way. Organize to speak out. Organize to bloc vote. When E.O. 11246 is finally enforced for Asian Ams, in 10 years, there will be about 500,000 additional Asian Am. managers in private industries, academia, and the Federal government. Although not related to E.O 11246, the number of Asian American Federal judges will be in double digits, in strong contrast with the meager 6 as District judges and none as Circuit Court judge at the present."
Woo also said, "80-20 wants to thank those Co-Chairs of 'Asian Pacific Islander Americans for Hillary' who helped get Sen. Clinton's attention to 80-20's questionnaire. A special thank goes to Gordon Quan, former Councilman of Houston, who served as an effective liaison between Sen. Clinton's campaign and 80-20. They are our community's heroes and heroines."
Tomorrow 80-20 will begin contacting other presidential candidates who have received its questionnaire but have not replied. They are Democratic presidential candidates, Senators Barack Obama, John Edwards, Gov. Bill Richardson, & Rep. Dennis Kucinich. None of the Republican presidential candidates have answered yet.
