Presidential Election of 2008 and How We Win Our

President Obama's Record After His Election
b) Fulfilling His Commitments to Our Community
1) More AsAm judges
In 2006, when 80-20 started to push for more Asian Am. federal judges,
there were only 6 such district judges. Today, a mere 7 years later, & 4.5 years after Pres. Obama's first inauguration, we have
21 + 4.
The
4 are circuit court judges. See the figure and table below.
2) Enforcement of EO 11246 on behalf of AsAms
On January 11, 2010, Dr. S. B. Woo and Dr. Chenming Hu of the 6-member "DOL Meeting Team" met with Patricia Shiu, the Director of OFCCP (Office of Federal Contract Compliance
Programs), the
enforcement section of DOL.
The meeting was positive. Director Shiu states straight-forwardly that there is a glass ceiling above Asian Ams. and that DOL will
enforce Exec. Order for Asian Ams. specifically to help break it.
DOL's written reply to 80-20 ( 2-10-2010)
After the meeting, 80-20 Educational Foundation wrote DOL to seek written clarification of 80-20's understanding of the outcome of the meeting. Here is an excerpt from Director Shiu's reply on 2/10/10:
"....OFCCP intends to enforce Executive Order 11246 on behalf of all protected persons, including, but not limited to, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). OFCCP will broaden its enforcement efforts and focus on identifying and resolving both systemic and individual discrimination cases....."
DOL's written reply to 80-20 (4/7/2010)
80-20 seeked further clarification from DOL's response dated 2-10-2010. OFCCP reiterated its intention to "rigorously enforce Executive Order 11246 on behalf of all protected persons, including, but not limited to AAPI." |
