Motion:
Kathleen To moves to appoint an Acting Executive Director:
Whereas, 80-20 couldn't find qualified candidates who were willing to commit the immense amount of time required to be 80-20 PAC's President and Vice President;
Whereas, although the positions are vacant, the workload still need to be taken up by someone;
Whereas, 80-20 also contacted S. B. Woo, past 80-20 President and currently a member of the Executive Committee. He was willing to bear the workload for one more year but was unwilling to run for the presidency for fear of setting a bad precedent;
Whereas, the 2009 Board will take office on 1/1/09 and it may wish to find its own solution to this situation,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the current Executive Committee will appoint S. B. Woo as the Acting Executive Director of 80-20, without pay, effective immediately. His term lasts until such time when the 09 Board will find its own solution. From 2009 onward, the Executive Director's duties requires additional specification in the absence of a President and a Vice President. Under that circumstance, S. B. will report to the Immediate Past President instead of the President. In addition, S. B. Woo may speak for 80-20 after consulting with our Immediate Past President Kathleen To.
In any policy matter, he must acquire the approval of the Exec. Comm. and/or the Board. S. B. shall remain an elected Board member.
We would like to urge the 09 Board to find qualified candidates for the president and vice president positions at the earliest possible date, and hold a Special Election for the membership to vote on in a contested election.
JIng-Li Yu seconds the motion.
The motion was unanimously approved.
